“How can someone that is certified unfit to work, fairly and freely take part in this process? By not intervening, the Labour Party is complicit in preventing Apsana Begum’s recovery.”
Read the solidarity statement in support of Apsana Begum MP.
We the undersigned are calling for an immediate halt to the Labour Party’s trigger ballot process in Poplar and Limehouse.
Currently, the sitting MP has been certified unfit to work. The relevant documentation has been provided to the party.
We have watched in disbelief as the Party leadership, nationally and regionally has failed to intervene to pause this process whilst the MP recovers, even after repeated communication explaining the seriousness of the situation, receiving multiple complaints from party members and serious concerns being raised by professional bodies like Women’s Aid, online.
How can someone that is certified unfit to work, fairly and freely take part in this process? By not intervening, the Labour Party is complicit in preventing Apsana Begum’s recovery.
It beggars belief that we are having to ask for such a basic, humane request from the Labour Party.
