“The cost-of-living crisis is not unique to France; it is felt by working people across the world. Our response must be collective resistance and international solidarity”

More than 50 trade unionists and students from across Britain are travelling to Paris to stand in solidarity with French workers taking part in the general strike.
Organised by Strike Map, the worker-powered, worker-funded map of industrial action across Great Britain and the island of Ireland, the delegation brings together Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the National Education Union (NEU), alongside union workplace representatives and branch officers. The delegation will join picket lines, meet striking French workers and strengthen international solidarity in the shared struggle against austerity and the rising cost of living.
Strike Map co-founder, Henry Fowler said:
“We’re proud to have organised this delegation to join the French General Strike in solidarity with French workers and students. They have shown how an organised working class can challenge the narratives of cuts and austerity, and reject an economic system that is failing working people.
Under the banner ‘Everything is going up, except my salary’, we hope to stand alongside striking workers and students, witness the power of coordinated mass action, and learn from their experiences. This is particularly significant as we mark the centenary of Britain’s last general strike in 1926.
We want to take the lessons from this experience back to union branches and workplaces across Britain, sharing ideas, building solidarity and strengthening our collective response. The cost-of-living crisis is not unique to France; it is felt by working people across the world. Our response must be collective resistance and international solidarity, challenging a global capitalist system that puts profit before people and fighting for an economy that meets the needs of our communities and society.”
Supported by trade union branches from the National Education Union (NEU), UNISON, Unite and the Barry Amiel and Norman Melburn Trust. The delegation will depart from London today and travel overnight, arriving in Paris early on 5 November.
