Workers at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) are taking indefinite strike action over real-terms pay cuts of 16% that they have endured over the last decade.
Meanwhile, the ICR’s CEO now receives more than £400,000 a year.
The ICR is also heavily funded by the UK Government, with more than 20% of its revenue coming from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and Research England.
And despite these cuts to workers’ pay, the ICR holds £36 million in free reserves.
Workers are being asked to pay the price while the organisation has significant public funding and substantial reserves.
