“This decision reflects a British government whose priorities are fundamentally disconnected from the needs of ordinary people.”

Sinn Féin MP John Finucane criticised the British government’s decision to commit a further £15 billion on militarisation, saying it is completely out of touch with the realities facing workers and families.
The North Belfast MP said: “The British government’s announcement today is completely out of touch with the realities and ongoing challenges facing workers and families. At a time when households are struggling to buy food, energy bills and fuel, the British government has chosen to increase spending by another £15 billion on weapons of war.
“This investment in drones, military technology and hybrid navy comes while communities continue to face poverty, pressures on public services and a deepening cost-of-living crisis. The priorities of any government should be supporting people, investing in healthcare, education, housing and tackling poverty, not pouring billions into militarisation.
“Families who are worried about paying their bills or putting food on the table will rightly question why there always seems to be money available for weapons, but not for the public services and the support they rely on every day. This decision reflects a British government whose priorities are fundamentally disconnected from the needs of ordinary people.”
