“A fighting trade union movement that takes strike action and wins is not just important—it is essential for our future.”
Strike Map has released the following statement after the resolution of the Birmingham bin strike.
We celebrate the resolve, courage, and determination of the Unite Birmingham bin workers.
After 16 months of dispute—including over a year of all-out strike action—these workers have been an inspiration to our entire movement.
The length of this dispute is down to the failure of Government-backed unelected commissioners.
Through ‘Megapickets’ and other acts of solidarity across the country, we are proud of the supportive role Strike Map has played.
It has been really exciting and powerful to see the support and solidarity actions of other unions and the rest of the movement in supporting their struggle. A model for other strikes and disputes.
This victory reminds us of a vital truth: when our movement acts together—standing with one another across unions and sectors—the power of the working class is unstoppable.
A fighting trade union movement that takes strike action and wins is not just important—it is essential for our future.
We congratulate every striker and everyone who stood alongside them.
Power to the bin workers. Power to Unite. Power to all workers.
