“Trade unions are not hapless spectators; we hold politicians to account when they promise and don’t deliver; our members will not stand by and allow this disaster to continue.”
From the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS)
PCS supported a Trade Union Coordinating Group rally in Westminster last night alongside RMT, Equity, UCU, Napo, POA and BFAWU.
The rally focused on the ongoing issues with Capita, the pensions scandal and the failure of Labour to deliver the ‘biggest wave of insourcing’ following its election promise in 2024.
PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote said: “What has happened to the biggest wave of insourcing? Trade unions are not hapless spectators; we hold politicians to account when they promise and don’t deliver; our members will not stand by and allow this disaster to continue.”
RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “We estimate today that there are hundreds of millions of pounds still going into the private rail sector, money which could be spent improving a public rail system in the UK.”
Mark Fairhurst, national chair of POA, provided harrowing testimony from a prison officer who had retired after 38 years in 2025. Now in 2026 he is yet to receive a penny and has been told all his details have been lost by Capita.
This rally was one of several meetings PCS has supported or facilitated in Westminster in recent months regarding the Capita pensions and payroll scandals. We have been campaigning on this issue for many months and members across the UK have sent thousands of emails to their local MPs encouraging them to support our parliamentary activity, which has included early day motions, debates and oral and written questions in both houses.
We are urging MPs to once again debate the Capita scandals, particularly considering the recent data breach affecting more than 130 individuals. We have submitted draft questions for MPs ahead of the next Cabinet Office oral question session this week and we will continue to liaise with our parliamentary group to ensure this issue remains a campaigning priority.

Members can still sign the e-action to ask their MP for urgent action on Capita civil service pension administration.
