“It’s time for the government to listen to campaigners: private profit has no place in our NHS.”
By Keep Our NHS Public
Keep Our NHS Public has just launched our new petition, ‘Tell Keir Starmer: Invest in our NHS, not the private sector‘ to coincide with our London rally Patients Not Profit.
Despite heavy rain this lunchtime, we had a strong turn out of several KONP groups including members from Leeds, a delegation of Unitee workers from the Infectious diseases cleaning team at Guys and St Thomas’ hospital forced to strike over working conditions, and MPs from across the house.
Those who joined included Labour Lord Prem Sikka, Labour MPs Nadia Whittome, Richard Burgon, Imran Hussain, and Steve Witherden, Co-Leader of the Green Party Adrian Ramsay MP, Iqbal Mohamed MP of the Independent Alliance and independent MP John McDonnell.
All of us were united in telling Keir Starmer to invest in the NHS, not the private sector.

The government’s current plans to invest in the private sector instead of the NHS will not end the crisis, but will make it worse. At the rally today many also spoke about the shocking decision by the government to cut foreign aid spending and increase military spending by 2.7%. While no one condoned the cuts to aid spending, all those at our rally were clear – we should invest in the NHS not weapons.
The truth is the NHS model is not broken: it just needs to be funded to succeed and restored to its founding principles. It’s time for the government to listen to campaigners: private profit has no place in our NHS.
