This morning, the Scottish court has ruled that the government approval for the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil sites in the North Sea was unlawful, in a momentous victory for climate campaigners in Britain and around the world.
The approval in question was made by the previous Conservative government in 2023. This new ruling places significant pressure on the new Labour government to halt drilling at these sites and invest in sustainable energy, our communities and a Green New Deal.
It is universally agreed and understood that opening new drilling fields is totally incompatible with our commitments to tackle the climate crisis and our obligations to numerous global accords on ensuring the long-term future of our planet.
