“The University and College Union criticised this gagging order as cruel and an outrageous silencing of those affected.”
Strike Map write on the scandalous measures taken by management at the University of Sunderland- not only pushing through cuts to jobs, but attempting to stop staff even discussing it.
Sunderland University management has threatened academic staff with job losses through a restructure and forbidden them from discussing it with colleagues, students, or alumni, effectively a gagging order, citing a desire to avoid “unnecessary unrest.”
The University and College Union (UCU) criticised this gagging order as cruel and an outrageous silencing of those affected. UCU also condemned the HR department for its lack of compassion, noting a prior no-confidence motion against HR for similar failures. This follows the university’s broader plans to reduce its workforce, further eroding trust and morale among staff.
