“Trump’s presidency threatens us all. Based on his track record and the ultra-hawks he’s putting in the State Department, the threat of war and nuclear confrontation looks higher than ever.”

Campaigners and campaigns have come together to announce a London protest on January 20 against Trump’s inauguration under the banner of ‘Together Against Trump,’ with John McDonnell MP saying “We are standing together against Trump’s far-right agenda – and for people, planet and Palestine.”
Anti-racists will be at the forefont of the mobilisation, with Sabby Dhalu of Stand Up to Racism saying, “During the US presidential election campaign Donald Trump escalated his racist rhetoric against migrants, claiming they are ‘animals,’ ‘stone cold killers’ and the ‘enemy from within.’
She added, “The rhetoric has shifted from building a wall and banning Muslims from entering the US, to claims that migrants have already invaded, destroying the country from inside its borders and vowing to building massive detention camps and conducting mass deportations.
“A second Donald Trump presidency will embolden every fascist and racist in Britain and across the globe. It’s vital that we stand up to and mobilise against this renewed racist campaign.”
Kerry Able of Abortion Rights explained the importance of the protest for pro-choice campaigners, saying “Trump boasted about killing Roe v Wade and overturning the decades-long right to abortion. His election in November will reinvigorate the most extreme anti-abortion activists.
‘The fact that the majority of states with abortion rights on the ballot voted to enshrine or expand access to abortion shows that there is still resistance to further attacks on reproductive rights.
‘We give our full solidarity to pro-choice campaigners in the US while we also fight hard for no rollbacks here.”
Meanwhile, a CND statement said “Trump’s presidency threatens us all. Based on his track record and the ultra-hawks he’s putting in the State Department, the threat of war and nuclear confrontation looks higher than ever.
Under his Presidency, the US developed ‘useable’ nuclear weapons and withdrew from landmark arms control treaties that had banned the type of long-range missiles that are now being used in Ukraine.
Trump’s new team of ultra hawks has already emboldened Netanyahu’s genocidal expansionism and risks an all-out war on Iran. They also plan to rachet up a military confrontation with China and a nuclear arms race.
Trump’s election will strengthen the far right and fascists globally. This will embolden the likes of Farage as they whip up hatred and justify greater military spending for another world war.
We can’t allow this recklessly dangerous leader to drag the world towards annihilation. This is why CND is working with all those who oppose Trump to help build the broadest alliance possible for peace, justice and a sustainable, nuclear-free future.”
Also highlighting Trump’s reactionary foreign policy agenda, Tim Young of the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign said, “Trump’s return threatens a renewed assault on Venezuela aimed at illegal ‘regime change,’ and is boosting the far-right across Latin America. We will be protesting to say, Trump – Hands off Latin America!“
