Thousands of peace campaigners are expected in Westminster, Parliament Square and Whitehall on Saturday (14 December) for a rally to demand an end to the genocide in Gaza and a commemorative event to remember the 44,500 people killed by Israel so far, the majority of them women and children.
Toys and flowers will be laid at the gates of Downing Street during a candle-lit vigil and a naming of the dead reading, followed by a performance by Carol Singers for Palestine near the Churchill Statue.
Speakers at the 2:45pm rally in Whitehall include musician, visual artist and Stop the War president Brian Eno, author and poet Michael Rosen, British actress and writer Sarah Agha, who is of Palestinian and Irish heritage, and Leanne Mohamad, the British-Palestinian activist.
The events are part of a national day of action for Palestine organised by the coalition of organisations behind the national Palestine demonstrations. Events are also taking place in a number of towns and cities around the country.
It comes after 150,000 people marched through central London a fortnight ago for the 22nd national march for Palestine since October 2023, and the biggest day of workplace action, which saw trade-union activists, workers and students stage solidarity actions from rallies and pickets to teach-ins and bake sales in demand of an end to the genocide and to British arms sales to Israel.
