“Your flippant denial of genocide egregiously downplays the suffering of Palestinians and shows blatant disregard for international law.”
The Independent Alliance’s Letter to the Prime Minister
Following Keir Starmer’s claim that there is no genocide taking place in Gaza during PMQs last week, The Independent Alliance have written to the Prime Minister asking him to publish any legal advice he has received over the definition of genocide.
In a letter signed by Jeremy Corbyn, the Independent Alliance say the government’s “flippant denial of genocide egregiously downplays the suffering of Palestinians and shows contempt for international law”.
This follows Keir Starmer’s refusal to acknowledge the genocide in Gaza, in response to a question from Ayoub Khan during last week’s PMQs. The letter also asks the PM “what words [he would] advise Palestinians to use to describe the mass slaughter of their people.”
The Independent Alliance have also written to the Attorney General, asking if he will publish any legal advice he has offered the Prime Minister on this matter. The letter also asks the Attorney General if “the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary have publicly contradicted the findings of UN reports and pre-empted decisions of international courts on this issue”.
