Fire Brigades Union members have voted to retain their political fund for the next ten years.
Results have been announced on May 1st, with members returning a 91% yes vote.
Under the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992, trade unions cannot spend money on political objectives unless approved by a ballot every 10 years.
Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary said:
“The fire and rescue service has faced a decade of brutal political attacks. Politicians at local and national level have presided over dangerous cuts, taking aim at firefighters’ jobs, pay and conditions.
“Anti-union laws decree that unions must hold a ballot to retain their political voice, and Fire Brigades Union members have voted decisively to keep their political fund. As we approach a general election, firefighters will take our demand for urgent investment to all politicians at every level.”
