“Diane has faced levels of racism that have shaken our country and have made international news yet her leadership and commitment to represent the people of Hackney and the UK remains unbreakable.”
It is now a year since Diane Abbott MP has been suspended by the Labour Party and we, the people of Hackney, demand that Diane Abbott MP is reinstated NOW, writes the Stand up for Diane rally volunteers
Diane has been unanimously reselected by her constituents since she first stood for office and was elected in 1987. Diane has had decades of successful political life serving thousands of local residents, millions of people across the country and overseas.
She has voted against every major cut to welfare for the poor, unemployed and disabled people.
Diane has consistently stood for peace, equality and prosperity. She has backed every major socialist cause during her time in office and has a long-standing history opposing racism, has voted against every main immigration Act since she has been in parliament, she opposed the 2014 Immigration Act, which led directly to the Windrush scandal, as warned by her and others at the time.
Her speech on civil liberties, in the debate on the Counter-Terrorism Bill 2008, won The Spectator magazine’s “Parliamentary Speech of the Year” award, and further recognition at the 2008 Human Rights awards.
Diane was the first Black woman to be elected to any national legislature in Western Europe, the first Black person to be included in Labour’s shadow cabinet as Shadow Home Secretary and is the longest serving Black member of parliament.
Diane has faced levels of racism that have shaken our country and have made international news yet her leadership and commitment to represent the people of Hackney and the UK remains unbreakable, whilst remaining loyal to the values of the Labour party. We need to see that the Labour Party respects and supports Diane Abbott and is willing to tackle misogynoir and Afriphobia in the wider British society today.
Diane has unreservedly apologised for causing any offence last April, since then over 10,000 people including constituents, trade unions, political leaders, grassroots organisations and people all over the country have signed a national petition calling for the Labour Party to reinstate Diane Abbott NOW and be ready to continue to represent the people of Hackney in the next general elections.
