“We demand an end to British government complicity in war and repression in the Gulf.”
Stop The War’s Public Statement opposing the visit of Mohammad Bin Salman
By Stop The War
News that Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammad Bin Salman, will visit Britain this autumn (date unspecified) should be greeted with outrage for a whole host of reasons as our statement outlines below.
The primary reason is the ongoing war in Yemen where the Saudi-led coalition has murdered thousands of civilians, with wholehearted Tory support, since they began intervening in 2014. Since then, the UK has licensed over £7.9 billion worth of arms to the Kingdom, which is also considered one of the world’s worst abusers of human rights. This cosy but blood drenched relationship demonstrates the utter hypocrisy of Britain’s foreign policy.
We’ll be encouraging all of our supporters to join protests against Mohammad Bin Salman’s visit and will be keeping you updated on when and where those protests will be. Please read, sign and share our statement below:
We, the undersigned, oppose the visit of the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammad Bin Salman, to Britain later this year.
The visit is part of the British government’s efforts to support the Saudi regime, against the struggles for freedom in the Gulf. This involves supporting a regime which dismembered Jamal Khashoggi in its Turkish embassy, and regularly executes political opponents. It involves supporting the siege, occupation and war against Yemen. It involves supporting repression of the popular struggle for democracy and human rights in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. It involves supporting the Saudi regime in suppressing independent political activity by the population of Saudi Arabia.
We are therefore committed to protests before and during the visit. We demand an end to British government complicity in war and repression in the Gulf.
