By Islington Friends of Jeremy Corbyn
Islington Friends of Jeremy Corbyn (IFJC), a group of local activists who support Jeremy as a fantastic constituency MP, is working to ensure that his historic record of 40 years as the MP for Islington North is recognised and celebrated.
He has consistently defended our local communities, and fought for international peace and human rights.
He has seen many different Governments and the impact of changes in policy over the years, but has been steadfast in standing alongside constituents fighting bad housing conditions from overcrowding to disrepair, hostile immigration policies, and under investment in public services.
He has championed groups fighting to build community resources and working together to support each other – whether they be Friends of local parks, community centres working to overcome isolation and share the talents and enthusiasm of their local neighbourhoods, or those addressing food insecurity and street homelessness.
He is a regular visitor to picket lines and is well known by many Islington Trade Unionists for his solidarity and active engagement to try to resolve disputes.
Tenants’ groups know he will take up issues with their landlords, and he has fought with health campaigners to defend the A&E department at our local hospital and to keep private companies taking over GP surgeries in the constituency. He is a regular visitor to local schools where staff and pupils throng to talk to him.
He has fought against racism in all of its forms and has worked with faith communities and minority ethnic groups to build racial justice and overcome division.
In addition, he has a huge commitment to environmental issues and is well known for his enthusiasm for his allotment – his homemade jam is legendary in the area!
It is no mean feat to win the support of the electorate decade after decade as he has done, and he has been a great source of support and encouragement to many Councillors and activists.
He is an active member of the local Labour Party and has campaigned in every election for Labour candidates .
He has, of course, also had an impact far outside the Constituency, and has inspired activists across the world.
Islington Friends wants to help both constituents and those who live elsewhere to help celebrate the 40 years anniversary of our MP’s election to Parliament, and so has organised a thank you card.
We want to thank him for his years of service to the people of Islington North and beyond. Despite attempts to silence him, he continues to speak truth to power and courageously advocate for the many.
We are heartened that he has recently said, ‘I am proud to represent Islington North in Parliament. I have spent the past 40 years campaigning alongside my community for a mass redistribution of wealth, ownership and power. That is what I’ll continue to do.’ For decades, Jeremy Corbyn has been part of struggles to build a fairer and more equal world and we thank him for his hard work, enthusiasm, and perseverance.

Jeremy is a very decent kind and honest man and politician. He should never have been kicked out of the labour party.
Whatever the factions , fairness and democracy must prevail
While I strongly support Mr Corbin, I have never understood how an MP who has been elected by the resident voters can be suspended by a political party? And that too without due consultation with the voters who have elected him. It looks like some sort of grey area. There seems to be something unethical about suspending him. I think the suspension matter of Mr Corbin should be referred to the Parliamentary Commissioner or the Lord Chancellor for a clarification showing the legal validity of such a suspension. There may be some past precedents but what is in question here is the validity of the basis of suspension. If other readers have similar views as mine please let me know and I will consider further action to help the great MP.
