With Johnson finally on his way out, we must build up the struggles against the Tories and the whole ruling-class offensive. Tonight, we will be bringing together leading union voices on their struggles against pay cuts and job losses and discussing the next steps in the fightback we need to stop ordinary people paying for a crisis they did not create.

Building the resistance – Unity through struggle takes place online at 7PM with speakers including John McDonnell MP, Mark Serwotka, PCS General Secretary; Andrea Egan, UNISON President; Louise Regan, National Education Union; Sarah Woolley, BFAWU General Secretary); Nabeela Mowlana, Young Labour Student Rep.; and Ben Selby, FBU Vice-President.

This evening’s chair, Labour NEC members representative Gemma Bolton, stated that “now is the time for the Left to stand 100% with those resisting the Tory offensive – and argue that Labour needs to be taking the fight to the Tories.” Gemma, who is currently standing for re-election added that we must be “standing for socialist solutions, including the popular and transformative extension of public ownership we need.”

John McDonnell spoke on the Tory leadership election ahead of the meeting arguing that “whoever wins out of Sunak & Truss, we all lose, with more cuts and attacks on human rights and civil liberties on the way.” The former shadow chancellor added that “people have had enough and are organising for change themselves. On the Left we need to be there with them.”

This online discussion is supported by the Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs and is the closing event of Arise 2022 – A Festival of Left Ideas. Join us as we show that the Labour movement is fighting back across the country, and that together we can lead the fightback against the Tory attacks on our rights, livelihoods and standard of living.
