Labour is under constant pressure from powerful institutions that work for the 1% not the many our Party was established to represent. Since devolution, Welsh Labour has resisted these influences and shown that Socialist policies are popular and win votes.

Our NEC representative must assert these values and ensure that members are heard. My experience as a determined campaigner with principled politics equips me well to do this. Joining Labour in 1974, I stood 3 times in the same Tory-held Council seat before I won, and held it when ‘safer’ Labour seats were lost at Thatcher’s peak. In 1992, I defeated the Tory incumbent to become MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, which I represented until 2010 (see my record here).

I was Chair of the Socialist Campaign Group. My successor in that role, John McDonnell, has commended my commitment and attention to detail. Since moving to Wales in 2012, I have been active in Brecon and Radnorshire, serving as CLP Chair and Branch Secretary. If elected, I would work for a more democratic, member-centred Party and provide regular report-backs. I am supported by Welsh Labour Grassroots and Momentum.

Mae Llafur dan bwysau cyson gan sefydliadau pwerus sy’n gweithio i’r 1%, nid y mwyafrif sefydlwyd ein plaid i’w cynrychioli. Ers datganoli, mae Llafur Cymru wedi gwrthsefyll y dylanwadau yma ac wedi dangos bod polisïau Sosialaidd yn boblogaidd, ac yn ennill.

Rhaid i’n cynrychiolydd NEC ddatgan y gwerthoedd hyn, gan sicrhau bod lleisiau aelodau’n cael eu clywed. Mae fy mhrofiad fel ymgyrchydd penderfynol gyda gwleidyddiaeth egwyddorol yn fy arfogi’n dda i wneud hyn. Wrth ymuno â Llafur ym 1974, sefais deirgwaith yn yr un sedd Cyngor yn nwylo’r Torïaid cyn i mi ennill, a’i dal pan gollwyd seddi Llafur ‘mwy diogel’. Ym 1992, trechais y periglor Torïaidd i ddod yn MP dros Birmingham Selly Oak, a gynrychiolais tan 2010 (gweler fy nghofnod yma ).

Roeddwn yn Gadeirydd yr SCG ac mae fy olynydd yn y rôl honno, John McDonnell, wedi cymeradwyo fy ymrwymiad. Ers symud i Gymru yn 2012, rwyf wedi bod yn weithgar ym Mrycheiniog a Sir Faesyfed, gan wasanaethu fel Cadeirydd CLP ac ysgrifennydd cangen. Os caf fy ethol, byddwn yn gweithio i blaid fwy democrataidd sy’n canolbwyntio ar aelodau a byddai’n darparu adroddiadau rheolaidd. Rwy’n cael fy nghefnogi gan Wreiddiau Llafur Cymru a Momentum.
