On Thursday, Labour for Irish Unity will host a discussion entitled ‘Perspectives on Irish Unity’ to discuss the way forward in the struggle to end the partition of Ireland.

Debates about Ireland have become a more regular feature of recent discussion in British newspapers and in parliament – whether that relates to the recent six nights of reactionary violence in the North of Ireland; the fallout from a Tory-led Brexit; the results of the inquest into the Ballymurphy massacre; the Government’s shameful legislative manoeuvre to provide impunity for the military personnel responsible; or even Keir Starmer’s ill-judged comments on taking sides in a border poll in defiance of the Good Friday Agreement.

And yet a century after the partition of Ireland, many in Britain know little about Irish history, Ireland’s legacy as one of Britain’s last colonies, and the on-going and prospective civil rights abuses in the North of Ireland.

Labour for Irish Unity bring together Professor Colin Harvey of Queen’s University Belfast, Chris Hazzard, Sinn Fein MP for South Down, and Asad Rehman, the Director War on Want, to provide some much-needed context to today’s debate. We encourage you to join them for what promises to be a night of timely and important discussion.
