“The test of any country’s climate commitment will be if they are making the massive, urgent & sustained investment needed to tackle the climate emergency.”
Jeremy Corbyn
On the day he launches the Peace & Justice Project – we are pleased to reproduce Jeremy Corbyn’s thoughts on the way forward to tackle the climate emergency following the Climate Ambittion Summit;
Following on from the #ClimateAmbition summit, the test of any country’s climate commitment will be if they are making the massive, urgent and sustained investment needed to tackle the climate emergency.
This means that all stimulus aimed at creating and protecting jobs must be used to make society greener and fairer. Yet analysis only a few weeks ago showed just 5% of stimulus funding globally is green.
For the future of our planet, public investment must be made to the count. As well as investing in millions of the green jobs of the future, all public funds and subsidies should come with conditions requiring serious progress to reduce emissions.
Britain lags behind in this area. Yet this week’s report from the Climate Change Committee set out a path for what needs to be done.
Now the Government needs to launch a world-leading and urgent green new deal with massive funding – the £12 billion recently announced is nowhere near enough.
It is high time the Government put in place the investment and policies needed to make a #ZeroCarbon future a reality.
